We Came, But Never Arrived (A Poem For Robert)

poetry, lgbt poetry, gay poetry, gay poem

Two straight decades and my heart beats in silence
As the drought plagued my eyes and stole all my tears
My hope is buried, cuddled by a steel fence
Guarded by wild horses taller than my fears
Galloping t’wards the wilderness all these years

You came, windows allow light thru the curtain
Drapes dropped dripping with ling’ring hesitation
But the warmth of your kiss unraveled the chain
That I made love with and I will never shun
Then our eyes met and you’re now my addiction

My smile long-dressed-in-a-frown suddenly flirts
And you returned such with a sweeter favor
My stone heart cracks open, felt bliss and no hurts
These longings turned from whispers to a clamor
All I want you now is to be my lover

My bed is not home, a home is not just bed
Kisses stay where it’s planted, devoid of growth
Your hand held mine, loose, as fragile as a thread
I then opened up but you stood up and clothe
My blooming affection withered and then loathe

I’m looking for the armors you melt with smiles
The knight in shining armor’s fading in sight
You walked me t’wards heaven, now alone for miles
Amidst all things wrong, you were my only right
Was left fighting alone the endless twilight

Our story was short-lived, time to be archived
We both came, but ended and never arrived
