When “H” In HIV Is Replaced With “Happiness”

Being an advocacy blogger engaging in HIV awareness campaigns, I am inclined to be part of different bisexual and gay groups to get to know the trend and influence the trends affecting us. It was both a joy and pain being part of these groups. Joy because I can see how our kind helps each other in many ways. Pain because of the apparent division caused by the lack of education especially when it comes to the issue surrounding HIV.

Today, while I was checking on my Facebook feeds, I saw a post by a person named Jefferson Santos Delena. He posted in one of the gay groups I am part of.

In my over one year of blogging about HIV awareness campaigns and rebuttals of HIV myths, I have not seen someone like him. Well, probably because I was never able to use DOH certification training as an HIV counselor or maybe I have turned a blind eye to the hope the lightens up amidst the fears in the PLHIV community.

I have never seen someone who has been proud of being HIV positive in a positive way. He took HIV as a way for him to love himself better, to appreciate life like he never did before, to love more all the things and people around him and to know God more.

He even indicated that he’s no longer particular with who could’ve infected him.

Indeed, there is still life after HIV. And one can still live positively despite being HIV positive. It is really about time that we cleanse our minds with the stigma surrounding HIV. After all, you don’t need to be HIV-positive to join a noble cause of abolishing stigma. You just have to be human.
