Stigmatizing HIV Statement Of Vine’s Most Popular User On The Loose Again

Do you know Nash Grier? Honestly, I don’t. It’s because I am not a Vine user. But with his highly homophobic video that was unearthed just recently, I bet you’ll probably want to know him better.

For our knowledge, Nash Grier is the biggest Vine personality owing to the 8.7 million followers that he has. According to his website “Nash Grier is currently the “King of Vine” with over 7.5 million followers on the site. Nash has become a verified social media star. His popularity has been growing at an exponential pace. He has gained over 300,000 followers on Vine, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube a week.”

Just this April 2014, Nash posted a video of himself with his reaction to HIV awareness commercial. The commercial stated that getting tested wasn’t a “gay thing.” On that note, Nash responded “yes it is” and screaming homophobic slur.

Grier quickly deleted the video. But just recently , Tyler Oakley, a YouTube personality, unearthed it making a fresh new start in the blogosphere earning the ire of the LGBT community once more.

“HIV is not just a gay thing. It’s a woman thing, it’s an African-American thing, it’s a Latino thing — it’s something that affects everyone in every community,” Dr. Gary Blick, co-founder of HIV-Equal, said in a statement. “It’s time that our youth here in the U.S. wake up and realize that HIV doesn’t discriminate — and neither should they!”

In addition, Tyler responded to the video on Twitter on Monday (July 7), writing: “Promoting a false stereotype that HIV only affects gays to his millions of teen fans is extremely dangerous. Call me and people like me, ‘fag’ all you want, but spreading false information about deadly diseases is next level. I don’t ‘drag’ or ‘slay’ your favorites. They do it to themselves. I’m just the nail painting emoji sitting on the sidelines. Don’t mind me.”
