Since When Did Sta. Lucia Mall Impose A Dress Code Policy?!

Malls are places where one derive comfort, shopping options, where we buy our groceries and a meetup place for meetings and the like. There are an array of things that can be done in a mall and opportunities that are made–that perhaps not all mall employees will realize that are happening.

But just yesterday, my partner, told me of a very bad experience that he faced with the security of Sta. Lucia Mall. He has been going to the mall just wearing sando most of the time. We dated there while he’s wearing such. And we never experienced any discrimination with regards to the sando that he has been fond of wearing.

He was told by the security that he cannot enter the mall because they have a dress code inside. And wearing a sando is restricted. He tried to enter the other entrance and to his surprise, he was able to enter without question from the security. He then talked to the other security why they were not consistent with their supposed dress code policy. He was then escorted to the security office just for the security personnel to tell him that there is an existing policy and no question must be asked.

With a heavy heart, my partner told the guard that he just lived nearby and he has an errand to attend to for our business. And if they would implement such policy, make sure that all security personnel must be aware of it and not only one.

With all due respect to Sta. Lucia Mall, this is the first time that I came to know of a mall implementing such policy. Isn’t it quite funny that Sta. Lucia Mall, a mall of choice by those living within Rizal area, would implement such policy where in fact we were able to see plenty of males wearing a sando inside the mall who posted it on Instagram with hashtag #stalucia that’s why we were able to know that the policy was never in existent?

Isn’t it ironic that only one security personnel was knowledgeable of such policy for the longest time? Isn’t it ironic that when I checked online about any source that would really say that Sta. Lucia Mall indeed practices a dress code policy, I found none? How come there’re no postings in the information board of Sta. Lucia Mall of such policy?

Hopefully, Sta. Lucia Mall will be consistent with their policy that only inhibits the experience that they customers deserve as a paying customer. My partner was there to meet someone for our business. A customer who’s going to pay for whatever they are going to eat or drink there. And not just someone who’s going to stay there and experience a free wifi.

Really now, Sta. Lucia Mall? A mall about us?!

Mall must be judged by the experience that their customers derive from a mall visit. After all, a mall is not just a place, it is an experience. And with what my partner experienced, the experience taints the reputation of Sta. Lucia using the tagline “a mall about you.”
