PLHIV Seeks DOH’s Attention For ARV’s
The LGBT community, especially the MSM community, has always been so open in the fight for equality in the Philippines. But a bigger battle has to be fought by the community especially those who are PLHIV (people living with HIV). Just yesterday, a letter from “Pozzie Pinoy”, President of The Project Red Ribbon Care Management Foundation Inc. and a PLHIV, went viral.
The letter was asking for Dr. Enrique T. Ona, DOH Sec., to look at the issue where Bureau of Customs “has been holding and delaying a shipment of antiretroviral medicines (ARV)’s for PLHIV because of issues regarding importation documents .” In addition, it was also BOC is requiring DOH to pay P5 million for the shipment tax.
The letter completely states:
While this issue might not be of national concern, the minority group, PLHIV, is relying too much on the ARV’s that deeply place them to a matter of life and death. ARV or antiretroviral is the drug used to strengthen the immune system of people living with HIV and AIDS.
Hopefully, this letter will reach the desk of the people concerned to promptly give a solution to the problem.
We don’t need to be HIV positive to help these people. We just need to be human.
