Now That You’re A Butterfly
I was already a butterfly.
And I know you wanted to try.
But the world is full of the whirl of winds.
And at your back are the swarm of fiends.
I covered you with my wings of hope.
‘Cause I felt how it feels to be dope.
I kept silent while others poke you.
I know, you just wanted to be true.
While you’re away you started to grow.
And from your cocoon, there’s been a glow.
And now that you’re free, face all of them.
That you’re now a butterfly, amen.

I made this poem when one of my closest friends in college went out of the closet. I can already feel before that he’s gay. But I never tried to confront him because I know how it felt to be dragged out from one’s closet. And I am very proud to welcome him in this world now that he is a butterfly.
