No Excuses: HIV/AIDS-Related Services Are Now Mobile

There’s no excuse anymore for you to stop taking care of yourself. You can get HIV and AIDS services by just using your mobile phone. Last April 4, 2014, Department of Health (DOH) launched a free texting service which aims to provide needed information regarding HIV. It also aims to provide counseling, testing as well as life-saving treatments.

One just needs to key in HIV and send it to 8504. For Globe subscribers, they are free to use the service for a year according to DOH.

After texting, you will get series of messages and interactive voice messages about these matters:

  1. Information about HIV.
  2. Risk assessment.
  3. Health facilities in Metro Manila like Manila, Pasay and Quezon City.

The mobile communication service is a public-private partnership among the Philippine NGO Support Program, Philippine National AIDS Council, and Globe Telecom.

HIV Facts:

–          As of February 2014, DOH has recorded 486 new HIV cases. It is 43% compared last year. Obviously, setting a high record of world’s fastest growing HIV cases.

–          Out of the 486 of these cases, there are 36 that are already escalated to AIDS.

–          In January to February, new cases of HIV ended up with 934 cases and from 1984 to 2014 there are 17,450 cases all in all.

You don’t have to be HIV positive to be supportive. You just have to be human. Share the good news.
