
How Many HIV Cases Were Diagnosed In The Philippines On May 2017?
In May 2017, there were 1,098 new HIV antibody sero-positive individuals reported to the HIV/ AIDS & ART Registry of the Philippines (HARP). This was 48% higher as compared with the same reporting period last year (741) and also the highest recorded cases ever since 1984. Eighty- seven percent of those were asymptomatic at the time of reporting.
In Summary:
We have reached more than 1,000 NEW HIV CASES found in a month. We are now at 29 new cases PER DAY.
This means that we have increased our information drives, leveled up our testing and are in the process of linking our PLHIV to treatment and care. Kudos to our advocates and health workers
BUT…
30% are in our youth sector
66% are in the working class
29 are pregnant mothers
187 have already died just this yearWe are NUMBER 1 in Asia and the Pacific with a drastic INCREASE in new cases, while in other countries, rates are going down.
We all have to work TOGETHER… NOW!!!
We need to CHANGE risky behaviors NOW!!!
We have to STOP fear, stigma and discrimination NOW!!!Or… are we waiting for more of our people to get infected?
