LoveyYourself Offers Free HIV Screening On May 17
In celebration of the National HIV Testing Week, LoveYourself, Inc. (LoveYourself) will be conducting a free HIV screening day on May 17, Sunday, at Victoria Court-Malate in Manila. This event is open to all ages and genders by registering at go.loveyourself.ph/finally.
With a message of “#Finally! Free HIV Testing For Me”, LoveYourself brings free, confidential HIV screening in a very accessible location in Manila for people who may not get screened because of its expensive cost in private clinics or hospitals.
LoveYourself is a non-profit organization that offers free and confidential HIV testing and counseling through events and its clinics.
Alarming rise of HIV cases
In March 2015, there were 667 people reported to be newly infected with HIV, roughly 34% higher compared with the same period last year, according to recent Department of Health data. Of the new cases, around 96% were male and 44% were located in the National Capital Region.
For 2015 alone, LoveYourself helped 3,800 individuals get to know their status. These people were on top of the 9,895 clients the organization has counseled and tested in 2014. Data showed that the advocacy group is at the forefront of the fight against the alarming rise of reported HIV cases in the Philippines at nearly 21,000 since 1984.
LoveYourself believes that people who finally know their HIV status can adopt a more confident, positive outlook in life. The organization earnestly advocates that knowing your HIV status cannot only help prevent the virus from spreading to other people but will also empower you to take care of yourself and become a force of positive change in your family and community.
