The Launch Of “adultED: dialogues in Safe Spaces”
A TEDx-style event where LoveYourself and Save The Children will launch a new program to address the rising cases of HIV in the Philippines. Dubbed as ‘Safe Space’, it is an innovative and sustainable condom distribution model where everyone can get access to free condoms without embarassment and fear of judgment.
The launch will also serve as the unveiling of the project’s mobile app and the first batch of establishments where the first ‘Safe Spaces’ will be installed.
SafeSpacesPH is an innovative distribution model for increasing access to FREE condoms in Metro Manila. Safe spaces can be anywhere: bars, coffee shops, restaurants. By partnering with private establishments and using technology through the SafeSpacesPH mobile and web applications, it aims to solve the problem where 7 out of 10 of our youth are ashamed to buy condoms, making them vulnerable to HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). To date, the Philippines has the highest rate of increase of newly-diagnosed people living with HIV across Asia and the Pacific region.
The launch will also be the first of an event format dubbed as “adultED: dialogues in Safe Spaces”, which is a series of forums which fosters dialogue about sexual health and wellness without fear of judgment or stigma. Guest speakers from UNAIDS, DoH Epidemiology Bureau, LoveYourself, and a representative from the youth sector will talk about the national situation, intervention best practices around the region, and how innovative programs are important in abating the HIV epidemic, which is now a national emergency in our country.
We are inviting the blogger community to join us, and hopefully cover the event in your own blog content, so we can reach out to our youth who will greatly benefit in these kinds of dialogue about sexual wellness and awareness. Because we believe that sexual health is everyone’s right, just as health is a basic right.
