Just How Self-Stigmatizing Is the Gay Spectrum In The LGBT Community?
The gay group is the most, if not the most then probably nearly, the self-stigmatizing group of all in the LGBT community. Here are some of the reasons why.
Outing closeted gays or those we assume to be gays
Basing it from what I am seeing, other gays would try to make fun of other gays hiding in the closet with the rationale that gays must ALL be true to themselves. It doesn’t work that way. Please remember that the Philippines is a country tolerating homosexuality but not fully accepting it.

Perhaps you’ve also felt the pressure of coming out, in one way or another, to your family or the society. Then double the pressure that gays who are not yet out or gays who still remain hiding in the closet feel while other openly gay guys out them. Yes, I am talking about the celebrities that gay pages trying to make fun of celebrities.Â
Does it really give us the right to do such act since such people are considered as “public figure?”
Abusing the “negative” HIV status in social media
Similarly, do we really need to post the result of our HIV test on Facebook and in HIV awareness groups? Yes, it’s your account you have the freedom to do anything with it. But posting those to make you feel “clean” might hurt those PLHIV who are quietly living quality lives just like you do. And this does not just reflect what I think when I see guys posting such things online. This is also the opinion coming from an HIV consultant.
How on Earth does a gay-themed Facebook group with so many followers makes fun a sensitive issue that is primary affecting the said community instead of using its power to educate the majority?

In addition, we make it harder for serodiscordant couples to get into and staying in a relationship. Is love based on HIV status alone? It becomes so superficial.

So when our straight counterparts make fun of us it’s disrespect but it’s ok if we do it with our brothers and sisters. So we fight for equality and respect? Oh, the equality and respect that we think we deserve but we can’t even give to our own kind.
