I Am Pogay: Empowering Machismo And Diminishing The “Gay” In Us?
Just a thought when watching I Am Pogay:
Instead of being empowered as a part of the homosexual society, why do I feel insecure?
I feel like I don’t fit in anymore. Seems to me there is now a yardstick as to what “being gay” should be like. Have we now lost the context of the word “homosexuality”? Have we lost diversity? Now all I see are gay men sporting hefty biceps and chiseled abs, hair shaved at the sides (undercut, anyone?), and looking like we’re sharing the same wardrobe. Isn’t it bothering that when finally “this” society is becoming more socially acceptable, we have become less of what we were before? We’ve gone machismo and lost the inner Maximo Oliveros in all of us.
I am not against the show, but to proclaim they are geared towards empowerment? Sorry, but this is just another entertainment show for me.
